Kamchatka’s Shiveluch volcano has erupted again today. The ash column reached up to around 12 km into the atmosphere, triggering a red aviation warning.
The ash plume has drifted about 50 km toward Kamchatka Bay, but no settlements are in its path and there’s been no reported ashfall so far.
Authorities are advising locals to keep windows and doors shut, stay indoors if possible, and use respirators and eye protection if going outside or cleaning up ash.
Shiveluch is one of Russia’s most active and dangerous volcanoes, sitting in a remote part of Kamchatka, roughly 50 km from Klyuchi and 450 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The ongoing M1.86 flare from AR 4461 has produced a VERY energetic and impressive CME. Here is the most recent loop from SolarDemon--fresh off the presses--showing what looks to be a wide eruption with likely Earth-directed components.
@RodDMartin Collins was for show. She doesn’t have a replacement.
Murkowski’s seat is up in 2028. Need a strong energy savy America First challenger to replace her.
Let’s take a poll.
Who does the Government provide better food access to?
Fort Stewart soldiers, or
Delaney Hall ICE facility detainees.
@SecWar vs @DHSgov
Fort Stewart soldiers aren't reviewing the food anymore. They're reviewing whether they can get fed at all. With an overall 2.7 Hots rating.
Straight from the latest DFAC reviews:
"1ABCT has closed all DFACs and Kiosks on the brigade footprint. The closest DFAC is a 90 minute round trip if you don't have a car."
"Waited 25 minutes for a hot dog and scoop of mashed potatoes. All the drink machines (including water) were broken... they ran out of the main entrées since it's the only open DFAC."
At the hospital DFAC: "you can only get one piece of bacon... one protein... probably 15g. I have to buy extra protein just to recover after workouts."
This isn't a picky-eater problem. It's a food access problem.
And it's not happening in a vacuum. We've heard the planned CSDV for Fort Stewart is delayed & based on the contract, should already be operational by now. So soldiers are being asked to absorb closures and consolidation while the modernized dining that was supposed to fill the gap still isn't open with no ETA as far as we know.
One review from a soldier who tried the right channels: "Told leadership multiple times but nothing happens."
We need to ensensure Soldiers have access to good food.
Sonoran Harris Hawks, Westchester County, NY, 1988. I flew “Peanut,” the little male on my shoulder, for 10 years before he was electrocuted on a power line. I hunted with the hen, “Kuucheen,” for 24 years. She laid eggs and produced chicks every summer, and today falconers all over the East Coast are still hunting with her progeny. #GetOutside #LiveRealLife
AURORA ALERT: a strong solar storm could bring the northern lights to much of the U.S. tonight (Thursday, June 4). NOAA has issued a G3 ("strong") geomagnetic storm watch for June 4 into June 5. If it pans out, the aurora may be visible across the northern states and into the central U.S., with a small chance even farther south during brief bursts called substorms.
What's happening: an active sunspot region called AR 4455 fired off several CMEs (giant clouds of solar plasma) on June 3, including ones tied to an M9.5, M7.8, and an X1 flare. At least three are aimed our way and may arrive together. NOAA expects the first impact around midday Thursday (18 UT or about 2 PM Eastern, 1 PM Central, 11 AM Pacific), while NASA's model leans to the evening and another (HUXt) pushes it into the early hours of June 5. It's a wide window, so watch tonight into early Friday.
How strong: NOAA's official forecast is G3 (Kp 7), but a lot depends on whether we take a direct hit or a glancing blow, so it could land higher or lower. Don't put too much stock in pinpoint Kp numbers or app forecasts days out. Space weather is hard to predict and the storm will evolve on its own. Treat them as a sign activity may be enhanced, not a guarantee.
How to catch it: get away from city lights, find a clear view to the north, and look during the darkest part of the night. Watch for substorms when the sky can go from dark to full of color in just a few minutes. Two things working against us: clouds (even thin, high clouds can mute the show) and a bright ~80%-lit moon that rises around local midnight. Your best window is the dark gap after dusk and before the moon comes up.
The map shows roughly how far south the aurora might reach tonight. Forecasts like this don't always come true, so keep your hopes up but your expectations realistic.

@RyanJFrench It’s more a case of a broad slow CMEs being overtaken by the last fast moving focused wave, than it is a “merge” all three hit our atmosphere in a 24-48 hour period.
The current forecast calls for combined CME arrival around mid-afternoon EDT of June 4, with up to G3 levels possible afterwards. CME passage would likely continue into the evening and possibly overnight hours of June 5. Stay aware at https://t.co/TV7Yw6Lq1Y
🚨 We have movement in the #CAGov primary vote count! The estimated number of uncounted votes has increased dramatically, sending the counted percentage backwards:
California doesn’t even know how many people are actually on the voter roles.
We need to verify that elections results are accurate.
On a national level and state by state.
CA voting is a joke.
🚨 NOW: A late mail-in ballot drop just came in and Republicans LOST it by a LOT, and the total votes remaining to count WENT UP
CALIFORNIA IS INSANE

California elections are a DISGRACE!
Becerra is moving toward taking 1st place over Hilton (R), while Steyer also gains
