Julie Ann McIlwaine’s murder conviction has been quashed. A woman subjected to years of abuse and coercive control, convicted of murdering the man who abused her. The law failed to properly understand the context of that abuse.

Our food bank has been called out to a woman with no gas and no electric.
Payday is weeks away.
When we arrived she was shaking, I asked why.
She said it was her anxiety and nerves.
But she still found the courage to reach out.
This is why kindness is so important.
You have no idea what someone is facing in life.
We are all one pay check away from needing help from a service, charity, food bank or someone else.
Today she has electric and she has gas. A small fix is a world of uncertainty. #foodbank
They say they hate “wokeness,” but what they really hate is empathy. Because once you start caring about other people’s experiences, inequalities become harder to ignore, and privilege becomes harder to defend.
I spoke to London-based GP trainee and creator of YouTube channel Tiny Doctors Dr Eva for this month’s parenting column on @onlinehyphen about the importance of health literacy for pre school children, which is what her channel is all about

Palestine was never empty. The camera already knew that.
In 1896–97, the Lumière brothers sent Alexandre Promio to film the Holy Land under Ottoman rule. What he captured is among the earliest moving images of Palestine: Jaffa Port, the courtyard of Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, Jerusalem’s railway station, sacred sites, and people in the streets.
Muslims. Christians. Jews. Walking the same gates, the same roads, the same land.
Not a slogan. Not a later map. Actual footage of a living country called Palestine — ports, churches, stations, markets, worshippers — before partition, before occupation, before the claim that this was a vacant stage waiting for someone else.
Watch the people, not the propaganda. Jaffa was a port. Bethlehem was a town. Jerusalem was a city of three faiths under one sky. That is the historical record, not a talking point.
Palestine had a name. Palestine had people. The film is still there.

Today I turn 30 YEARS OLD, which means it’s been 14 YEARS since I was on #EducatingYorkshire. Incredibly, I’m now the SAME AGE Mr Burton was when he changed my life. As I say goodbye to my 20s, I dedicate this post to the life-changing teachers who never gave up on me. Thank you

We asked UK Muslims how 9/11 changed their lives. Their answers touched on hope and solidarity.
A teacher: "What stays with me most is how important conversations w/ young people were. They can be easily led & I’m grateful I was in a position to challenge some of those ideas."
