In our study, we showed that intestinal Methanosarcinales have reduced genomes, are obligately dependent on #H2 and methylated compounds for #CH4 production, and have lost the upper part of the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway and membrane complexes.

Endomicrobia are widespread endosymbionts of termite gut flagellates. Their transition to an intracellular lifestyle involved substantial gene losses that were compensated by the acquisition of new functions via horizontal gene transfer. #mBio https://t.co/qvXmbnT0OR
#Methane is the 2nd most potent #greenhousegas after #CO2. Termites and other arthropods produce up to 4% of CH4 into the atmosphere annually. But we know little about methanogens in the arthropod guts. We shed some light on the topic - https://t.co/0GEvE06iSZ
