If the resurrection was a hoax, the disciples knew it.
Yet they were beaten, jailed and executed, and there's no record of a single one confessing.
People die for lies they believe. Not for lies they invented.
So why did no disciple ever confess?
@allbygrace_ And it's not just faith. Even hostile sources confirm Jesus was real: Tacitus, a Roman historian who despised Christians, records his execution under Pontius Pilate.
The question was never whether he existed. It's what happened three days later.
@trad_west_ And the first people to find the empty grave? Women, whose testimony barely counted in the first century.
Worst possible witnesses to make up. Best possible witnesses if it really happened 😄
@MelGibson_CG And the earliest record of that claim, the creed in 1 Corinthians 15, dates to within a few years of the crucifixion.
Not a legend that grew over centuries. The resurrection was being proclaimed from the very start.
@sola_chad Even most critical scholars accept these facts:
1. Jesus died by crucifixion
2. His followers believed they saw him alive
3. Paul, a persecutor, suddenly converted
4. James, a skeptic, did the same
Any theory that isn't resurrection has to explain all four.
@DanielvsBabylon And notice the progression: Why... What... Whom.
From where he was, to what you want, to who he is.
By the end, the answer was never a place or a thing. It was a person.
@DennisMJordan On point 2: if a man really rose from the dead, that's evidence for an afterlife. So it becomes a historical question.
Why did Jesus' followers, his skeptical brother James, and Paul, a persecutor, all claim they saw him alive, and keep claiming it even when it got them killed?
