A UNIFIL peacekeeper died early this morning from critical injuries sustained when mortar shells struck his position near Marjayoun, southeastern Lebanon.
Two other peacekeepers, who also sustained injuries, are being treated at a medical facility in the UNIFIL base.
How can the @UN deliver better, faster and more efficiently at country level?
I joined the #ECOSOC OAS to present on the reconfiguration of UN Country Teams (UNCT) – critical work I’ve been facilitating under the SG’s #UN80 reform agenda.
We’ve explored 3 key areas:
1️⃣ Strategic and streamlined planning to support national development priorities.
2️⃣ No one size fits all. Adapting according to context.
3️⃣ Form follows function. Expertise can be deployed in different ways.
Great discussion with Member States and UN Resident Coordinators on the need for ambitious reform to make the UN fit for the people we serve at country level.
After +4 years of full-scale war in #Ukraine, the security situation in many communities remains volatile – putting immense pressure on local healthcare systems.
In Kharkiv, @UNOPS_UEE & @UNFPA are improving women’s access to safe maternal & reproductive healthcare services.

Attacks on health in #Lebanon continue to take lives and deprive people of access to health care.
In the most recent hostilities in Tyre, South Lebanon, multiple attacks have been reported affecting two of the city’s three hospitals:
* Jabal Amel Hospital where according to initial reports 39 health workers were injured yesterday; and the hospital's emergency department and intensive care unit sustained severe physical damage. @WHO is verifying the reported figures and the full extent of the impact.
* Hiram Hospital was damaged on 22 May and again on 31 May, resulting in injuries to 37 health workers.
Despite the damage, these hospitals continue to manage an increased influx of patients from mass casualty events.
Since the latest escalation on 2 March 2026, WHO has verified 191 attacks on health care, resulting in 128 deaths and 371 injuries among health workers and patients.
WHO reiterates its call for the protection of health care, health workers, patients and medical facilities in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Yet another wake up call on the urgent need for bold #ClimateAction.
The looming El Niño will very likely drive more extreme weather, exacerbating climate impacts already being felt by communities and economies around the world.
We must accelerate the shift to sustainable energy solutions, and protect impacted communities through effective adaptation and mitigation measures, including climate-resilient infrastructure.

In Ukraine, children’s laughter once filled Zahaltsi's local kindergarten 🏫
That changed in February 2022 when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of the country and occupied Zahaltsi for several weeks – leaving a destroyed school behind.
Today, children's laughter has returned as the fully renovated school welcomes students back once again.
