Succulent plants that thrive in arid environments, such as this cactus (Rebutia flavistyla) from the Andes, may hold the key to understanding how plant root systems can adapt to soils with a very low moisture content.
Look how beautiful #rice can be! You can see many air gaps, known as aerenchyma, that are common in rice roots. These air pockets help plants growing in flooded conditions survive.
