The University of Nairobi has taken an important step in reimagining how research reaches society by convening the opening Science Engagement Workshop for the Environmental Maritime Governance in Kenya (EMG-K) project.
The workshop brought together researchers and the University of Nairobi Travelling Theatre to begin translating three years of research on inclusion and exclusion in Kenya's environmental maritime governance into a stage production that will engage communities, policymakers and the wider public. The Travelling Theatre also showcased a thought-provoking skit, demonstrating the power of performance to simplify complex scientific and policy issues while sparking meaningful dialogue.
The discussions highlighted that environmental governance is ultimately about who has a voice in shaping decisions and who remains excluded. Participants reflected on the need to bridge the long-standing gap between academic research, communities and policy processes by presenting scientific evidence in ways that are accessible, accurate and compelling.
The project adopts a focused two-phase approach: developing a research-based stage play enriched with real-life testimonies before taking it to policymakers, media, civil society and maritime stakeholders through targeted public engagement. The aim is not only to communicate research findings but also to strengthen dialogue, build science communication capacity and ensure Kenyan voices contribute more effectively to national and global conversations on environmental maritime governance.
By bringing together researchers and creative practitioners, the University of Nairobi continues to demonstrate that impactful research extends beyond publication it informs policy, inspires dialogue and creates pathways for more inclusive decision-making. @ProfOdote @UoNLawFaculty

CLE INSPECTS UON KISUMU CAMPUS FACULTY OF LAW

In line with its statutory mandate under the Legal Education Act, Cap. 16B, to regulate, supervise and license legal education and training in Kenya, CLE conducted an inspection at the University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus, Faculty of Law, following the expiry of the institution's Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) training license.

The inspection follows a similar quality assurance exercise conducted at the University of Nairobi, Parklands Campus and Kisumu Campus, reaffirming CLE's commitment to upholding quality standards across all Legal Education Providers.

The inspection was led by the CLE Quality Assurance, Compliance and Licensing (QCL) Committee and officers from the Directorate of Standards, Licensing, Supervision and Compliance.

The University of Nairobi was represented by Prof. Winifred Kamau, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Charles Rambo, Associate Dean, Kisumu Campus, alongside members of the University's leadership and faculty.
