Overseas students have been included in immigration statistics for a while. I’m not really sure why, other than to inflate those stats and create anxiety. I’m also not sure why any country would be so embarrassed about having such an incredible export: knowledge. We should embrace this, surely. Overseas students bring funding with them - yes - but also enrich the learning environment and take their learning with them into the wider world.
