Dilawar Hussain, a former student of mine, has just authored his first book.
It is on the Senate of Pakistan and is based on his doctoral dissertation. It is available now for order and I hope there will be India and Pakistan editions as well.
Be sure to recommend it to your libraries/universities for purchase:

The first two chapters took a good six months to write but they were conceptually the most important and challenging. The rest should be easier. So, the most difficult part is over 😊.
Talk about a game of drafts.
I am so happy to share this - my brilliant class fellow, Ali Ammar, has just authored his first book.
He works in Multan & has written a volume on Contemporary Literary Theories. Published by the Cambridge University Press, be sure to request your library to order a copy.
I hope CUP will have the book printed separately in India & Pakistan.

My review of Selena Wisnom’s The Library of Ancient Wisdom: Mesopotamia & the Making of the Modern World.
If you have time to read just one history book this summer, then make it this one, because, with all the firsts achieved by ancient Mesopotamia, there really isn’t much point in picking up the story from a later point.
The OG of Civs:
My latest book, New World Empires: Cultures of Power and Governance in the Americas, has won the 11th Best Publication Award for a book on the social sciences from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
The book is published by Routledge (NY) and is available in India from Manohar (New Delhi) & it will soon be out in Pakistan from the Oxford University Press.

As I explained at the outset of my talk and Q&A on Artificial Intelligence, Natural Stupidity, and the end of the Human monopoly on consciousness, I’m not an expert on AI, but with over 20 years of experience in the public sector you can definitely consider me an expert on natural stupidity:

government priorities are reflected in spending:

“Women-focused projects make up only 0.2 per cent of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in FY 2025–26, based on the Rs1 trillion federal development budget — a decline from previous years.”
Spoke at the Army Institute of Military History on “History, Conflict, and the Reshaping of Global Order: Lessons for Pakistan” - great to interact with the latest cohort of young scholars interning, even though my presence had the effect of raising the average age & lowering the average IQ. 😃
In January 2025 Asian Affairs published my paper (Officer Class) which examines the role of Pakistan’s civil service in undermining constitutional government during the first decade of independence.
Waqas Nawaz was kind enough to invite me on his podcast to take a deep dive into the origins of Pakistan’s constitutional disorder. If you’d like a copy of the paper upon which this podcast is based then email me at [email protected]

My second talk at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad dealt with the
“The ‘Eastern’ Question and the Patterns of World History” - really great to see the new batch again. May they all go on to successful careers representing Pakistan:
Earlier today had a talk at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad - the topic was “The Three Great Historical Problems of European History - Central Europe, Modernisation, & Maintaining Hegemony in the ‘post-colonial’ Era” - really good new batch of recruits - they asked excellent questions. I am confident the new batch will do a superb job of representing Pakistan.
Thank you so much Hammad for this thread on my 2022 book, Downfall: Lessons for our Final Century - the book is free to download from the publisher (CSCR)! 😃
