Enid gasped. “Rude.”

“And yet,” Wednesday continued, turning the page, “you continue finding me.”

Enid’s smile softened. “Maybe I like finding you.”

Wednesday’s lips twitched.

Maybe they had met before.

Maybe they had been drawn together for centuries, endlessly colliding through time in different forms and different lives.

Maybe she had loved Enid in every single one.

“I suppose it is possible,” Wednesday said carefully.

Enid brightened immediately. “Really?”

Wednesday finally looked at her.

“I am unsure but If there is a next life, I will find you again.”

Enid’s heart skipped.

Then Wednesday added, “Someone has to ensure you do not accidentally remove yourself from the gene pool.”

Enid groaned and shoved her shoulder.

Wednesday allowed herself a small smile.
