VANDALISM ALERT: Section between Jinja and Magamama is the new hub of vandalism on our railway line. On a daily, some Ugandans in that area are stealing railway material and selling it to metal dealers. We call upon everyone doing this to stop.
Today, @BenonKajuna Director of Transport made a site visit to Kawolo Sleeper Factory to appreciate the progress & preparedness to supply sleepers for the railway project. 7km of track panels have been assembled. An additional 7000 sleepers are ready for assembling into panels.
Line removal is progressing well. The team is on Kinawattaka approaching Banda. A few delays due to refusal of some occupants of railway land to vacate 10 meters on either side of the line to allow for these machines to operate smoothly. Engagements with the locals still ongoing
Greetings Uganda from the rail. Work in progress on the Kampala - Mukono stretch. However, there are some hindrances occasioned by the refusal of some people to vacate the 10 Meter Corridor. At Banda, as seen here, the machines are competing with peoples structures.
Another day at Kawolo Concrete Sleeper Factory: An additional 2km of panels have been assembled from the 7km declared last week, bringing the total to 9km of panels so far. In line with the local content requirements, 90% of the workers are Ugandans.
The works on the KLA-MKN section will also address some of these environmental violations. This the sight at the Namboole Railway Section, where waste from both Nakawa Div. & Kira Munic., mostly plastic has been dumped for years.
@RailwaysUganda This is great. If govt can increase more locomotives and wagons and refurbish the track, Import & Export freights costs would go down and our roads would last longer.
@RailwaysUganda Wow this is great.. Let's phase out trucks that damages our roads. Invest more and expand the Railway lines across the country. @GovUganda
