As many as 12 families, consisting of 49 people including elders and people with disabilities, have been forced out of their homes by the Thai military forces as their homes are next to the barbed wires and tires barricade that Thai soldiers set up in Banteay Meanchey Province.

The civilians, who are residents of Prey Chan and Choukchey villages in O’Beichoan Commune, O’Chrov District, have not been allowed to enter their homes since Aug. 12. The Thai armed forces have destroyed the Cambodians’ home fences and two Cambodian military posts.

BREAKING: Army Commander of Region 2 Vows to Reclaim Ta Kwai for Thailand, Plans to Close Ta Muen Thom

The commander of the Second Army Area recounts the background of the Thai-Cambodian border clashes, estimating that Cambodian soldiers suffered over 3,000 casualties. He vows to reclaim Ta Kwai Temple for Thailand and plans to close Ta Muen Thom Temple.

On August 10, 2025, at Suranaree Camp in Nakhon Ratchasima, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the Parliament, along with delegations from the King Prajadhipok's Institute Association, the King Prajadhipok's Institute Foundation, Navavej Hospital, the Saamrong Subdistrict Municipality of Samut Prakan, the Chedi Mae Krua Subdistrict Municipality of Chiang Mai, and Chama Asset Company Limited, collectively donated medical supplies (personal protective equipment) and consumer goods to soldiers serving on the Thai-Cambodian border. They then visited injured soldiers receiving treatment at Suranaree Camp Hospital.

Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor stated that the Parliament is ready to support the military's mission to protect national sovereignty and take the best possible care of the people.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, the commander of the Second Army Region, spoke openly about the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, saying the loss of life among Cambodian soldiers was likely around 3,000 because a large number of troops were used in the operation. He expressed sympathy but said he didn't know what to do because Cambodian soldiers have to follow orders from their leaders.

When asked about the issue of drone flights in Thai territory along the border, Lt. Gen. Boonsin said there were many flights over Thai positions, airfields, weapons depots, explosive storage facilities, military housing, and hospitals. He has coordinated with 14 provinces to find anti-drone measures and to locate the drone operators. He asked the police to fully investigate anyone they catch and not to simply conclude that they have a mental health condition.

"The Cambodian side is deliberately looking for the coordinates of our hospitals to input them, and they have weapons that can reach them. Don't think this is a distant issue. I believe that in the next war, we might need underground rooms, and our command centers will have to be underground," said Boonsin.

When asked about the situation at Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom temples, the commander said that the Cambodian side has been trying to seize the area around Ta Muen Thom with a force of thousands of soldiers.

As for Ta Kwai, a Cambodian military base is very close, and they have troops positioned in front of our line. This is the only temple where Thai soldiers have been holding their ground and haven't been able to enter. Our soldiers have attempted to enter four times but were unsuccessful. They are strong, and there are landmines heavily laid around the area.

"We operated for four days in 11 different locations. We are now 30 meters away from Ta Kwai, and their base is right next to the temple, which gives them an advantage. But I confirm that this is our castle, and we must reclaim it. After the clashes at Ta Muen Thom, we have now closed the temple and are considering whether to permanently close it or close it only for certain periods, which a committee must consider again," said Boonsin.

When asked about the overall morale of the personnel serving on the Thai-Cambodian border, the commander said, "The young soldiers have good morale. Those who get injured, as soon as they recover, ask to go back to the front line."

Boonsin concluded by saying, "I have 51 days left in my service. I will perform my duties as commander as best as I can. After that, I haven't thought about it yet. I am confident in my young soldiers and I am confident in the new commander."
