We have a new name! The JOIDES Resolution account is now called U.S. Scientific Ocean Drilling (@US_SciOD). We are here to support and amplify all the work that goes into advancing earth science through ocean drilling. Please get in touch with any questions or ideas!
As you may know, the JOIDES Resolution is on its final transit to a shipbreaking yard in Turkey. Though expected, this news is difficult to hear. As we feel this loss, we want to hear your favorite stories from the JR!

Last week, the IODP Expedition 403 Postcruise Meeting took place in Svalbard, Norway– a fitting location for an expedition focused on the Fram Strait. Scientists shared findings from the ancient climate, tectonic, and DNA data in Exp 403 cores.

#ICYMI Scientific ocean drilling still exists in the U.S.! The new Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office (@us_sciod) provides community support services & expedition planning for @NSF Sub-Seafloor Sampling Program (S3P) proposals. https://t.co/aNopWRmvY1 #nsffunded#sodco
What happens when teachers become scientists for a week? 🌊🔬
At the Gulf Coast Repository, educators are helping researchers collect data from ocean sediment cores and are translating real-world discoveries into engaging K–12 classroom lessons.

This week, the 2026 Teacher/Research and Curriculum Experience (TRACX), a step-child of the long-running School of Rock, is taking place at the Gulf Coast Repository. Ten teachers and three researchers are teaming up to advance SciOD research while creating classroom resources.
Do you want to advance scientific discovery through ocean drilling? Apply now for the role of SODCO Science Program Officer: https://t.co/jZt01uR8dj.
This role will work with leading Earth and ocean scientists to shape the next phase of U.S. scientific ocean drilling.
At a recent USSSP-supported workshop, scientists explored the causes, behavior, and frequency of submarine landslides, which can have serious impacts on communities along the eastern U.S. Learn more at https://t.co/CoEqovlcmu.

The recent i-CREATE workshop included a field trip to Scotland's NW Highlands to see the Stac Fada Member, an impact ejecta deposit from around 1 billion years ago. After a long, boggy trek, the group observed gneiss emplaced near the base of the impact deposit.

Happy Earth Day!
On Saturday, we celebrated Earth science with the SciOD traveling exhibit, "In Search of Earth's Secrets" at @AMNH EarthFest. We had a blast chatting with visitors about what we learn through studying deep ocean cores and what it’s like to do science at sea.
🥳 It’s out!

We're at the National Conference on Science Education (NSTA) in Anaheim, CA this week! Stop by and say hi at the Scientific Ocean Drilling booth, #1561.
Check out our resources and opportunities for teachers, like the core replica loan program and the TRACX workshop!
This Saturday, SODCO will be participating in @AMNH EarthFest. If you're in NYC, check it out!
We'll be in the Hall of Ocean Life with a giant inflatable model of the JOIDES Resolution. We'd love to chat about SciOD. All ages welcome!
