⚖️ MAJOR IMMIGRATION UPDATE
A federal court has just issued a nationwide order blocking key USCIS "hold policies."
What You Need to Know:
The Court Case: Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island v. USCIS
The Decision: The U.S. District Court has vacated Policy Memoranda 602-0192, 602-0194, and Policy Alert 2025-26 effective immediately.
The Impact: USCIS must now treat these restrictive vetting and entry hold policies as if they are completely out of effect across all agencies.
While USCIS disagrees with the court's decision, they are legally bound to comply pending further judicial review. If your application was delayed or impacted by these recent 2025/2026 security hold policies, this ruling could significantly shift your case status.
Stay tuned for updated instructions from USCIS as further litigation unfolds.

I've heard another explanation, a bit different than yours. In the ancient Mediterranean world, a slap wasn't just physical violence; it was an exercise of absolute social dominance.
If a superior (like a Roman soldier or a master) wanted to humiliate someone they considered an inferior (like an enslaved person or an occupied provincial), they typically used a backhanded slap to the right cheek. The backhand was specifically meant to degrade, to say, "You are beneath me, and I am putting you in your place."
By voluntarily offering the other cheek (the left one), the dynamic completely changes:
Demanding Equality: To slap someone on the left cheek, the soldier would have to use an open hand or a fist. In Roman social codes, an open-handed slap was how you struck an equal. By offering the other cheek, the person is essentially saying, "You cannot humiliate me as an inferior anymore. If you want to hit me again, you have to hit me as a peer."
