We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the devastating loss of Kelvin Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana.

On behalf of all World Athletics we send our deepest condolences to their families, friends, teammates and the Kenyan nation.

It was only earlier this week in Chicago, the place where Kelvin set his extraordinary marathon World Record, that I was able to officially ratify his historic time.

An incredible athlete leaving an incredible legacy, we will miss him dearly.

Why will a sane tourist come to Kenya if his iPhone is going to be taxed? How will returning Kenyans bring clothes & shoes to family members if going to be taxed? In all tourist & investor friendly countries in the world including the whole of Europe & Asia, no one opens your bags at airports. JKIA mandatory inspection of bags violates all rules of privacy & decency. The exercise will undermine Kenya’s attempts to attract tourists & investors. This is a retrogressive & self-harming policy. A walk / drive around Kilimani and you realize it’s one big construction site, a lot of tall high density towers coming up, as they should coz we need density to manage the urban housing problem so let’s keep building FURIOUSLY.

ISSUE is that nothing visible happening in PLANNING, INFRASTRUCTURE, ROADS, SEWER, DRAINAGE, WALKWAYS, WATER and POWER.
