That headline is a bit deceiving. The voter fraud is not elusive, it's that it is happening in jurisdictions that refuse to take action such as cleaning up voter rolls or investigate the known cases of it occurring.

Unless their feet are held to the fire, their inaction or willful disregard of violations will continue as it benefits them.

Welfare programs need to get back to their intended purpose, helping people out during a period when someone has fallen on hard times.

Being able to use programs such as SNAP at restaurants, to buy snack foods and sodas is not what it is intended for. Aligning it to grocery stores only is a good first step, but making these programs more restrictive and with conditions for use will limit fraud and dependency on a program that should only be available to the most vulnerable until they are able to get back on their feet.

Rep. Brandon Gill just introduced a bill that would BAN people from using SNAP benefits at restaurants, restricting them to only grocery store use.

We can tax the software, the consulting contracts, the products and the services you sell back into this country.

People keep calling Amazon “corporate welfare” like that’s the whole story. It isn’t.

In 2019, Amazon was ready to put part of HQ2 in Long Island City: 25,000-plus high-paying jobs, about $2.5 billion in investment, and a lot of tax revenue that only showed up if the jobs and the buildings actually happened. A lot of the incentives were performance-based. No jobs, no checks.

AOC opposed the deal, then took a victory lap when Amazon walked. Cuomo called it a massive lost opportunity. She treated chasing off one of the biggest private employers in the country like a moral win. The jobs left. The talking points stayed.

Now it’s 2026, and City Hall is back at it. The Delivery Protection Act would blow up Amazon’s last-mile model in the five boroughs. Amazon says it could push delivery facilities out of the city, put 40-plus local delivery partners and 5,000-plus jobs at risk, and make packages slower and more expensive. Citing an AKRF analysis, the company says full relocation could jack costs on packages now handled in NYC by 267%, cut service levels 10–21%, and cost the average household as much as $664 a year.

You can hate Amazon’s labor practices. You can argue about taxes. Fine. Calling every incentive “welfare” does not cancel the bill New Yorkers get when politicians run the company out and then start squeezing what’s left.

They already celebrated 25,000 proposed HQ2 jobs leaving town. Now the same political machine — AOC’s wing of the party, a DSA mayor, a council that never met a contractor it didn’t want to ban — may give residents the privilege of paying more and waiting longer while another piece of Amazon’s operation looks at New Jersey.

The question stopped being whether Amazon can afford New York’s politics. It’s whether New Yorkers can keep paying for the victory laps.

Pass a bill to change it (investment account-style; individual pays themselves) or do the hard, but prudent thing and eliminate the program all together.
