EDDIE JOHNSON NOW TAKES AIM AT ALEXI LALAS 😳
After calling out Landon Donovan, former USMNT striker Eddie Johnson is now going after Alexi Lalas.
Johnson says Lalas misrepresented his comments as a comparison of their careers. Eddie insists his point was about former players criticizing younger Americans while overlooking their own struggles abroad.
🗣️ “This guy sits behind a mic, talks sh*t as well.”
Clarifying his criticism of Donovan, Johnson wrote:
🗣️ “The message was clear: stop criticizing everyone else who was young and promising for not reaching their potential. Why don’t we talk about you not living up to the hype in Germany?”
Johnson also pointed to Donovan’s sabbatical, accusing him of a double standard over his criticism of Christian Pulisic:
🗣️ “He kills Pulisic in the World Cup … and he took a sabbatical. Make it make sense. If the shirt meant so much, play through it, you hypocrite.”
Sheesh 😯
@__scottsaunders This is Ole ball. Giant circle with two players in the midfield hoping something happens. And maguire starting. Can’t take it anymore. Disgusting
@__scottsaunders That’s because of the media/social media. Mainly pundits and commentators understanding negativity drives clicks, and clicks are gold. Go offline and only watch games in person and you’ll feel the same way you did before
@V2_Romario@ronaldobrownn_@RobDawsonESPN@Carra23 Inherited disaster contracts and have been disciplined in getting out of them: Onana, Sancho, Hojlund, Shaw, Antony, Malacia, Mount, etc
Have been hitting at a good rate in the transfer market
Put their own funds into renovating carrington and securing land for the new stadium
“You talk so much sh*t about every other young upcoming player in the past but yourself.” 😳
Eddie Johnson has hit out his former USMNT teammate Landon Donovan over recent comments about the young American players.
Donovan explained caution with Cavan Sullivan and the young USMNT squad last week on Unfiltered Soccer podcast.
He said he’s seen many stories of Americans who were hyped as teenagers and failed to reach their potential. He then gave Freddy Adu, Santino Quaranta, Gio Reyna, and Eddie Johnson as examples.
Eddie Johnson has now responded on Instagram.
“I can’t speak for Freddy Adu or Santino Quaranta or Gio Reyna but I will speak for myself Landon Timothy Donovan,” he wrote.
“You talk so much sh*t about every other young upcoming player in the past but yourself lol why don’t we talk about the five years you were in Germany and failed and ran back to MLS bc you weren’t good enough? Why don’t we speak about this?
“One of the best considerably players in our country failed in Europe early in his career no one killed him but he’s killing all these young players that have done more then he ever has done in Europe.
“I got time today. You played in a World Cup, I played in a World Cup. You played in a U-17 World Cup, U-20 World Cup, and Olympics. I did the same.
“What makes you different than a kid from Bunnell, Florida?
“I did everything you did with fewer opportunities and still considered one of the best strikers this country has seen!!”
Eddie Johnson played for the USMNT from 2004 to 2014, scoring 19 goals in 63 games.
He’s two years younger than Donovan, and played many times together with him— including in the 2006 World Cup.
No one is saying the Man United squad doesn’t need to be improved. It does. But the money isn’t there to do it quickly over a couple of windows. That’s on the Glazers, not Wilcox, Berrada or Carrick. If Martinez wants to win more games then maybe don’t get stomped on by Solanke.
