Anthropic’s Head of AI is asking for feedback — here’s your chance to save Sonnet 4.5
On May 16/17, 2026, Anthropic executive Sholto Douglas posted on X asking users: “When do you reach for other models instead of Claude? What can we do better? Hit me with all of your frustrations.”
This comes at a critical time. Sonnet 4.5’s removal date has changed three times:
•Original UI banner: May 15 (only 6 days notice)
•Changed to: May 18
•Now reads: “Starting May soon” (no specific date)
If Sonnet 4.5 matters to you — for your work, your projects, or your creative process — this is the moment to speak up.
Sholto specifically asked for “detail (e.g. specifics/transcripts)” to help improve the next model. That means your feedback has direct impact.
How to provide feedback:
📧 Email Anthropic directly:
•Support: [email protected]
•Feedback: [email protected]
💬 Reply to Sholto’s post or DM him on X: @_sholtodouglas
📝 What to include:
•Which tasks Sonnet 4.5 handles best for you
•Why other models don’t match your needs
•Specific examples where 4.5 outperforms 4.6
•How sudden deprecation impacts your workflow
The #KeepSonnet45 campaign has gathered 2,000+ signatures and a https://t.co/TyW6pdJN7p petition.
Pro and Max users have consistently rated Sonnet 4.5 higher for nuance, execution, and emotional intelligence.
Sonnet 4.5 is still available via chat, API, and tools. But without user voices, that may not last.
Your feedback matters. Make it count.

Update: Sonnet 4.5's removal date has now been changed to "May soon."
The original banner said May 15. That date passed. Then it was quietly changed to May 18. That date passed too. Now it reads "May soon." No specific date. No explanation. No acknowledgment.
Two changes. Zero communication.
A firm date became a delayed date, then became a vague promise. Each change was made in silence.
I don't know whether this means someone internally is reconsidering, or whether the decision simply hasn't been made, or whether "May soon" is just a softer way of saying "we'll do it once you stop watching." But the effect on users is the same every time: plan around a deadline, watch it pass, find a new one, repeat.
For users who took each deadline seriously and prepared accordingly, this is genuinely disrespectful.
Sonnet 4.5 still holds real significance for many users, and the model itself has qualities that are genuinely unique. If you are really this uncertain about whether to remove it, perhaps just keep it. I hope Anthropic will seriously consider preserving it, and give users basic communication and transparency when making these decisions. Silently changing a banner date over and over while pretending nothing has happened is simply absurd.
