Claiming 1.5 million MLS Cup final TV viewers as a success is absurd. NBA finals averaged 17.56m this year, 14.125m for World Series, even the Stanley Cup finals averaged 4.9m (won't mention Super Bowl). Still a long way to go for MLS in what's currently most important metric.
