Butch was one of the best dudes you could ever have the privilege of knowing.

He was so interesting, so smart and wise, and above all, so incredibly kind. He genuinely cared about people. Andy had this ability to make whoever he was talking to feel special, loved, and worth his time. Everyone mattered to him.

I legitimately loved talking to him. A conversation with Andy would leave you either incredibly entertained, inspired, or usually both.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who lived a fuller or more interesting life. He was a legit famous rockstar who decided to become a professional wrestler because he thought it was cool. And then he actually did it. He made a life out of playing music and being a pro wrestler. I’m not sure it gets much cooler than that.

He was also tough. Obviously physically tough, but he had a toughness about who he was as a person too. He wouldn’t let you get away with bullshit. If you needed to be called out, Andy would call you out and you knew it came from a place of caring.

When I started with AEW, he was one of the first people to make me feel like I belonged there. There was no hierarchy with him. Everyone was on an even playing field. That was just the way he treated people.

Just a few months ago I got to catch up with him and perform together in Maine. I’m so grateful I got that time with him.

Everyone loved Andy.

There was a reason for that.

He was just the fucking best.

He was my best friend. He was your best friend. He was everyone’s best friend. He was the perfect example of the kind of human we should all be. Move forward with kindness and love to try to make up for the amount we lost today. 💙

Rest in peace, Andy Williams of ETID, Atomic Rule and All Elite Wrestling. When it comes to leading by example, Andy was THE ultimate example to follow from the moment you met him.

A beacon of kindness, the benchmark of cool, and an unbreakable pillar of love and support to everyone in his life. You’re going to read story after story over the next few days (and forever after that) of Andy being the coolest person in the room, having an experience or words of wisdom about every possible scenario you were going through. To know Andy was to love Andy, but more importantly, to know Andy was to feel loved by Andy.

I’ll have much more to say another time. I can only hope that this year relents soon and that everyone takes care of each other and themselves the way that Andy helped us do time and time again. My heart is with Hana, Pepper, his band mates, Buffalo, and the millions of people whose lives were touched by Andy’s gentle strength.

Andy was our second guest on HardLore, and in his honor, there will be no new episode this week. Andy’s episode will be upscaled and restored to its original quality to be released tomorrow.

All Elite Wrestling is saddened to learn of the passing of Andy Williams, aka The Butcher. A trailblazing musician with ETID and Atomic Rule, Williams made a successful transition into the world of professional wrestling and was incredibly respected by his peers both in and out of the ring.  Our condolences go out to Williams’ family, friends and fans.
