As fire managers expected, based on the predicted weather, fire activity has greatly increased on the #Widemouth2Fire near Kanosh. The majority of this activity is on the southwest corner of the perimeter, near Dry Wash. The high temperatures and decreased humidity, along with more wind, are causing erratic conditions.

Due to the hard work of crews yesterday, there's very minimal heat on the north and northeast flanks. Firefighters continue to mopup and coldtrail this area (using their hand to feel for heat and verify that a fire perimeter is completely extinguished and will not grow.) If trends continue on the north and northeast flanks of the fire, officials will reevaluate the evacuation levels for currently threatened communities. Please stay tuned for further updates.

A drone (UAS) was spotted in the fire area yesterday, which delayed aircraft and threatened operations. To ensure the safety of our aviation personnel and protect your community, please respect the temporary flight restrictions and do not use drones in the fire area.

#WideMouth2Fire update, July 30, 2026, 9:30am

Summary: As of 6am this morning, the Widemouth 2 Fire is being managed by the Northern Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT). The fire remained active overnight, primarily on the northwest corner. Trees were visible torching out near the perimeter. Night shift remained engaged in areas threatening the line. Crews did gain 15% containment on the western flank after yesterday’s shift.

While the storm moved through and helped cool the fire area, little-to-no-moisture fell on the fire itself. The higher humidity and cloud coverage decreased fire activity, which provided firefighters the opportunity to go more direct along the fire perimeter. This was most effective along the northern portion of the fire in the lowlands and valley area, where the vegetation is more sparse with lighter fuels. Crews did as much work as possible with direct attack while there was a break in fire behavior, with the support of aircraft, until aircraft was grounded due to weather. There was also a drone intrusion into the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR), and aircraft had to remain grounded until the air was cleared. Remember if you fly, we can't!

The reprieve from explosive fire activity may be short-lived. Starting today, the area is predicted to experience a hotter, drier trend throughout the week. This comes with increased wind, and record-setting heat. With the cloud coverage moving out, the direct sun will cause heat sources to reignite.

The biggest concern remains the north flank, as it is closest to structures and Kanosh. Fire managers are utilizing dozers, crews, handlines, and aircraft along active areas to slow progression and gain containment. The southern flank is steep, difficult terrain, and crews are scouting for potential areas where suppression efforts will be most effective.

The IMT is working closely with the Millard County Sheriff and continuously evaluating the conditions, with the hope of lifting the evacuations as soon as possible.

Today, 10 personnel assigned to three engines will continue securing the fire’s perimeter and mopping up any remaining interior hot spots. #EastPromontoryFire Update: Forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Air resources have mapped the fire at 362 acres.

Please avoid the area as firefighters continue suppression efforts. A few power lines were impacted, but there are no road closures or evacuations at this time. The cause remains under investigation. #ffslkmg

#AdamsFire Update: The evacuation order has been lifted for most residents. The exception remains for those living in the lower area south of 5700 South (Combe Way), where the evacuation order is still in effect.

The fire has been mapped at 45 acres and is 10% contained. The cause remains under investigation.

New Start: another wildfire has been reported in the same area as the #MoundFire. The #SwettFire is currently estimated at 33 acres and determined to be caused by lightning. There are no structures threatened at this time, and the fire is burning on BLM land. We’ll share updates as more information becomes available.

New start: #MoundFire in Iron County, located west of Cedar City is currently estimated at 53 acres. No structures are threatened at this time. The fire is primarily burning on BLM land but is threatening nearby private land. This is currently the largest recent incident caused by lightning in the area. There have been numerous other reported lightning caused wildfires.
