Welcome back, Roadrunners! If you haven’t already, visit our college’s Student Success Center, located at FLN 2.03.02. At the center, you can get info about the college, your major, and get connected to a Science Mentor who can help guide you through your first semester at UTSA!
When multiple federal grant programs were unexpectedly canceled or suspended, it left dozens of students at UTSA — many of them first-gens — without the support they needed to complete their education.
The Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Fund and its trustees stepped in to help. They committed $250,000 in short-term emergency support that will help @UTSASciences doctoral students continue their education and research in Fall 2025.

Meet Laura Barnes, a senior from Dallas and a UTSA Honors College student who will graduate this month with a degree in computer science and a degree in mathematics of data and computing.
While at UTSA, Barnes has immersed herself in the university's computer science community. She served as VP and as president of Rowdy Creators, an organization where students gain access to experiential learning opportunities by collaborating on tech projects throughout a semester.
She's also currently the secretary of UTSA's Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) chapter and has competed in multiple hackathons — one of which turned into a business venture through an incubator hosted by Geekdom, a co-working community for startups based in San Antonio.
