Devastated to learn as a prideful Maryland alum, that prior to arguably the most important game in the last decade + (if not longer) for the Mens Basketball program..

We are apparently a ship without a captain. As our Head Coach has reportedly accepted a job with another school.

Already an underdog against a talent laden/deep #1-seed Florida and their analytical guru HC. We have no realistic chance given the lame duck status of the program leader, who seemingly has one foot out the door prior to tip off.

I feel for Terp Nation and those who have waited so long for us to have a legitimate chance at another national title. At its best, this squad was capable of that with the highest scoring starting five in College Basketball, a Top 10 rated Defense and a transcendent Freshmen talent - Hometown Hero, Derik Queen.

Suddenly, All the joy of Sundays R2 DQ game winning shot is gone.

Lots of blame to go around. I'll start with former Athletic Director Damon Evans and his staff. Evans was also searching for a new home over the last few weeks and found unsuspecting SMU. To put it mildly he left behind a mess. Including, a disgruntled Head Basketball Coach who's concerns about not being funded on a par with his Top 25 peers were largely ignored and or outright rejected.

The business end (differences and disagreements), between the Athletic Department and the Head Basketball Coach should have been addressed long before Selection Sunday. At that point, it was too late. Coach Willard then proceeded to air all his dirty laundry publicly.. All while negotiating to accept the same position with another school. Always, Do what is best for your family, but there was no need to mislead and flat out lie in such a scorched earth manner.

The way this was handled, by the Athletic Department and MBB program head coach has embarrassed the University and all its supporters. More importantly, it has compromised any chance to advance beyond the Sweet 16.

No current Athletic Director, and a MBB Head Coach that has accepted another job, All on the eve of the Sweet 16. This is complete and utter organizational malfeasance.

If this isn't a wake-up call for President Pines and the University Administration (seemingly wrapped up and paralyzed) in its usual political red tape while all this transpired, I'm not sure what is.

Simply, Terp Nation deserves better and so do the players representing the school tonight on the national stage without a Coach.

Stop taking us for granted. And get your act together, for once. Hire some real forward thinking leaders with vision + high character who want to be here. Skip the professional mercenary search committees and brand apparel recommendations. Bring Gary Williams in to assist and provide (loyal to Maryland) counsel. And stop settling on mediocrity across the board with individual program results and Athletic Department hires. Best and brightest over diversity and inclusion. If you can check off all those boxes, fine.
