“THANK YOU.

One month of emotion. Of going beyond limits. Of pride in wearing the colors of France.

Of passion, above all, the same one that drives us on the field and that drives you, in front of the screen as in the stands. That's what we lived together, AN INCREDIBLE STORY.

We didn't bring back a team trophy. IT HURTS AND IT WILL KEEP HURTING FOR A WHILE, I'm not going to lie to you about that.

The title of top scorer, I accept with pride, but it would have been so much better with the cup on top.

We may have owed you a more beautiful ending. But we don't always choose the end of the story, we choose what we put into it, and we put everything in. THAT, WE ARE PROUD OF.

Thank you to my teammates. Without their work, their runs, their passes, without that team spirit that carried us from the first to the last match, I never could have scored so much. This title belongs to the team as much as it does to me.

As a kid, I dreamed of playing in a World Cup, at least one. I've played in three, won one, and this year, I had the pride of competing in it with the captain's armband. I'll never forget it.

You stayed up late, sometimes until the middle of the night depending on the time zones, to watch us play on the other side of the world, you gathered at home, in bars, with family or friends, all over France and beyond.

Others were right there with us, in the stadiums, flags over their shoulders. Children with eyes sparkling, men and women of all origins and all generations together, united around the same pleasure, that of sharing. That's the power of this sport.

And you never let us down, even in the toughest moments, even when we deserved it less. This story, we wrote it with millions of hands, not just eleven on the field, carried by the same fervor.

To Didier, I've already said what I had to say, he knows. Thank you to him, to his entire staff too, physios, cooks, trainers, drivers, all those whom no one ever sees and without whom none of this would be possible. And to those who welcomed us in the United States throughout this competition.

Football, at its core, remains a game. A game we take very seriously, that we work our whole lives to try to master, but still a game, with its simple rules that haven't changed since we started playing it: ball, goal, desire to score. That's why it brings us all together with the same passion.

This World Cup is coming to an end, but the story, it continues. There will be other matches, other summer or winter evenings where we'll all come together again in front of this same game, with the same desire intact. WE'RE NOT DONE PLAYING TOGETHER.

De passion, surtout, la même qui nous anime sur le terrain et qui vous anime, devant l’écran comme dans les tribunes. Voilà ce qu’on a vécu ensemble, UNE HISTOIRE INCROYABLE.

On ne rapporte pas de trophée collectif. ÇA FAIT MAL ET ÇA FERA ENCORE MAL UN MOMENT, je ne vais pas vous mentir là-dessus.

Le titre de meilleur buteur, je le prends avec fierté, mais ç’aurait été tellement mieux avec la coupe en plus.

On vous devait peut-être une plus belle fin. Mais on ne choisit pas toujours la fin de l’histoire, on choisit ce que l’on met dedans, et on a tout mis. DE ÇA, ON EST FIERS.

Merci à mes coéquipiers. Sans leur travail, leurs courses, leurs passes, sans cet esprit d’équipe qui nous a portés du premier au dernier match, je n’aurais jamais pu marquer autant. Ce titre est autant celui du collectif que le mien.

Petit, je rêvais de jouer une Coupe du monde, au moins une. J’en ai joué trois, j’en ai gagné une et, cette année, j’ai eu la fierté de la disputer avec le brassard de capitaine. Je ne l’oublierai jamais.

Vous avez veillé tard, parfois jusqu’au cœur de la nuit selon les fuseaux horaires, pour nous regarder jouer à l’autre bout du monde, vous vous êtes retrouvés chez vous, dans les bars, en famille ou entre amis, partout en France et ailleurs.

D’autres étaient au plus près de nous, dans les stades, drapeau sur les épaules. Des enfants aux yeux qui brillaient, des hommes et des femmes de toutes origines et toutes générations confondues, réunis autour du même plaisir, celui du partage. C’est la force de ce sport.

Et vous ne nous avez jamais lâchés, même dans les moments les plus durs, même quand on le méritait moins. Cette histoire, on l’a écrite à plusieurs millions de mains, pas seulement onze sur le terrain, portées par la même ferveur.

À Didier, j’ai déjà dit ce que j’avais à dire, il le sait. Merci à lui, à tout son staff aussi, kinés, cuisiniers, préparateurs, chauffeurs, tous ceux que personne ne voit jamais et sans qui rien de tout cela ne serait possible. Et à celles et ceux qui nous ont accueillis aux États-Unis pendant toute cette compétition.

Le football, au fond, reste un jeu. Un jeu qu’on prend très au sérieux, qu’on travaille toute une vie pour essayer de le maîtriser, mais un jeu quand même, avec ses règles simples qui n’ont pas changé depuis qu’on a commencé à y jouer : ballon, cage, envie de marquer. C’est pour cela qu’il nous rassemble tous avec la même passion.

Cette Coupe du monde se termine, mais l’histoire, elle, continue. Il y aura d’autres matchs, d’autres soirs d’été ou d’hiver où on se retrouvera tous devant ce même jeu, avec la même envie intacte. ON N’A PAS FINI DE JOUER ENSEMBLE.
