Additionally, I could very much see Fortnite creating a new currency type so that founders no longer get Vbucks for missions since Vbucks then technically would not exist.

That is why they setup this free skin with purchase promotion as a way to dwindle out all remaining cards before introducing the new currency. Fortnite wants to create a new pricing structure due to all new cosmetic types. This would also explain why they got rid of rarities.
