The last delivery of coal into Ratcliffe Power station.
66781 arrives with with 6M61. A naming ceremony will take place at the temporary platform before unloading commences. Plenty of Hi Viz individuals waiting at the platform but I believe no press were present. 28/06/24
Curtain Call for Ratcliffe.
This coming Friday sees the final scheduled coal train, operated by @GBRailfreight, to visit Ratcliffe Power Station in Nottinghamshire before the site undergoes complete closure at the end of September.
The cooling towers and associated buildings and structures will be decommissioned and then demolished, with the site due to be redeveloped as a zero-carbon technology and energy hub. A GB Railfreight Class 66/7 locomotive is due to be named after the site to mark the sad closure of this industrial giant.
In happier times and looming large on the horizon, the site is seen in full song last Winter as 66136 arrives at Gateway West Junction with the 4M34 container service from Felixstowe South to the nearby East Midlands Gateway terminal.
A big moment in Britain's industrial story happened today.
The coke ovens at the Port Talbot steelworks were closed.
This was where they baked the coal used to make millions of tonnes of steel.
What you're looking at here is the last coke ever made in the UK. Pix: @TataSteelUK

@Culture_Crit Among several theories on how these majestic structures were made, one is the use of Inset ramps. That is a spiral of interior ramps were used which allowed the stones to be moved upward as construction progressed.
@TheTrainGuy55 Alas a image not taken by myself but found along with 200 or so other railway photographs bound tightly with a red Royal Mail elastic band in a box of random tat a few years ago, and I strongly suspected them being donated after the unknown photograph passed or gave up the hobby.
Due to politics at the SVR Resin Replicas was unable to Attend this Diesel gala,so over the next week I will be listing a large amount of name plates that will be available for collection or can be posted👍search jags222 on eBay for the listings
