@bhdonkey1 I'm not a corgi fan, but it's true. π They're short on purpose so the kicks go right over their heads. Of course, most of them you see these days are so overweight they couldn't herd a dandelion without pulling a muscle.
@JoeAlderman11@JoelBrownMD Have you read any of CS Lewis' non-fiction? His journey from non-belief was fascinating. His radio apologetics during the war (Mere Christianity, etc.) are all about explaining the very basics and his logic is very down to earth.
@LakotaMan1 All cemeteries should be treated respectfully. Our family's been plowing around a tiny family cemetery plot in the middle of our field for over 85 yrs. We asked if we could relocate it when we purchased that field in the 30s & that family said NO. So we fenced it & mow around it.
@deaflibertarian I'm curious what the School had to say...? What possible direction could they have taken that in besides an apology (which I'm sure they didn't do)?
@JoelBrownMD@ChezCharde Just want to mention that there's a HUGE difference between a skilled technical trade like a master plumber or electrician, and being a janitor. Not to put anyone down, all jobs have value. But these are NOT the same. So part of the issue is probably ignorance.
@StewMama71@libsoftiktok My name is taken as male all the time. I get messages to "Mr. Oliver" regularly or Jamie is changed to "James" for no good reason.π€·ββοΈI just ignore it and/or correctly reintroduce myself and roll on. It's their problem, not mine, I know who I am. wth is all the drama for?
@JoelBrownMD Neurodivergence is a real thing, and some kids/adults need meds. But I think over-diagnosing and over-prescribing in this area is a real thing too.
@JoelBrownMD As a parent, I agree. Too many Rx are applied as a quick fix to a poor ENVIRONMENT, not the child's actual neurological needs. Kids are on Rxs for "school work", but then parents take them off it for summer break. π€Brain "disorders" don't take a vacation.
@HistoryBoomer For example, edited books should clearly be labeled as "original" or "revised" with dates, etc. School library books should clearly be labeled with "explicit material" and/or "explicit language" on the covers--if there's even some reason that's appropriate--so parents know.
@HistoryBoomer Sure--as long as these things stay in the realm of entertainment and are clearly labeled and advertised, etc. so that people can make informed decisions. Too often now, people are not informed or it's treated as "education" instead of entertainment, so there is no choice.
@EstesSayWhat @EWErickson I think this is an interesting thought. I'm not a fan of taxing in general, but it's worth discussing at least. Solutions do have to be paid for. (Although I think school costs are already out of control for other reasons & savings could fund solutions as well.)
@LibbyPageWrites By itself, neither. Just descriptive. And to me sometimes it's not just vocab, etc. it also encompasses the emotional weight of the book and sometimes you WANT an easy read. A mental break. A cozy place to rest. So not automatically negative.
@GrmpyNaturalist π When I see the power company bucket truck on our street, I park myself in our driveway and supervise until they are gone. So far every time with me there watching they've said "Still looks fine" and left without touching them--then butchered the neighbors' trees.
@PatrickMignault No. Even in (rare) understandable cases of separate accts, there should be shared access, shared goals, and a shared understanding of all finances. Separate finances mean you are doing separate decision-making. Married couples should be doing joint decision-making.
@juliasreading Sometimes, especially after some time passes, grief feels lonely and isolating. I think sometimes we share because we don't want to feel so isolated in it anymore. No one's heartache is exactly the same, but some of us are traveling the road with you. Take care!
@jonnnnylingo Glad someone helped. It's ALWAYS good for girls to know how to take care of themselves. But side of busy road, crappy car jack, usually not correct shoes, not much experience = pretty dangerous. 8 of 10x, it's best for a girl to just call someone if she can. Knowledge AND wisdom.
@HarrisFanaroff And as your kids grow, they are freakin' amazing and every day is something new. You're stretched into becoming a person you had no idea you could be shaped into, and seeing this MIRACLE happening right in front of you, and getting to be a teeny, tiny part of it.
