When Gov. Spanburger vetoed SB335/HB246 she extinguished 6 yrs of hard work by disability and criminal justice advocates. The bill was a narrow, targeted reform designed to recognize that disability-related behaviors can be misunderstood as aggression or noncompliance by LEO.
Yesterday we addressed Governor @SpanbergerForVA’s veto of bills to protect individuals with autism, mental illness, dementia, and intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with other statewide advocates for this vulnerable group of people: https://t.co/tET4rLY1Xy

.@GerryConnolly@MarkWarner@SenTimKaine NO CUTS TO MEDICAID.Medicaid is a lifeline! People with disabilities rely on Medicaid for health care and services to support them in their daily lives. Any cuts to Medicaid hurt those who rely on it. #ProtectMedicaid#ProtectHCBS
@virginianpilot Autistic individuals in crisis are sent to hospital ERs or jails because Virginia does not want to do the hard work of creating a safe place for them to be supported. families are without options and anything they do to ask for help risks their loved one being charged w/assault
