Not only does Windsor, ON now have a 3% @VacantHomeTax but it is relying on a "snitch line" so that neighbours report on each other. "Do you or have you ever owned a vacant property?" #YouCantMakeThisUp! https://t.co/6FINWh0Rgw

Terrific piece by @IvisonJ.
“When the book is finally written, it will be noted that the besetting sin of the Trudeau government was the belief that the private sector is there to be milked, rather than it being an engine capable of pulling the economy toward greater prosperity”
Toronto demanded “proof” from residents who accurately declared their home was not vacant.
Now they have no ability to verify the proof… it’s almost like they botched it on purpose for investors that lied. 🤷♂️
… also 3 different numbers on the same day? 🙃
March 2024 updates from the Canada Revenue Agency about #CanadaUnderusedHousingTax - not yet law, but suggestion that there will be more "excluded owners". https://t.co/E8VlDjYD6K
Under Canada’s new and ridiculous rules, if I contract for an iPhone to be used and paid for exclusively by my 16 year-old daughter (who goes to school and works part time), that arrangement is a bare trust which must be reported on the new T-3, with penalties if I fail to do so.
The UHT is one of the worst legislative initiatives ever. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can have 5 or 10 homes or more without a penny of UHT.
(I would have said THE worst, but the Liberals have now outdone themselves with the atrocious rules for trust reporting.)
