@UFC intervening in a fight outcome is a danger to the fighters, fairness & public confidence. Is this standard protocol & an excuse for self-regulation? Rationalizing it any way should be unacceptable by commissions.
This deserves far more scrutiny than it’s getting.
Of course the bout was being regulated by the ABC themselves so I’m guessing it will not get critically scrutinized.
Several reasons you must stop a fight when the fighter states they can’t see. #1. You can’t determine the cause cageside or ringside. #2. The fighter can no longer protect himself. #3. A missed serious injury could be career-ending. #protectourfighters@ufc@MMA
If true, it’s a dangerous precedent & harmful to the fighters to have an unassigned non-commission promoter- employed physician step in to overrule an assigned commission physician. It enables promoter to interfere with the bout outcome. #fightersafety
The purpose of the weigh-in is to make certain the fighters are healthy prior to fight night. If they’re vomiting & ataxic (unsteady gait) for whatever reason it’s something requiring immediate evaluation by the ring physicians. #MMA#safetyfirst
#PEDs are prohibited at all times for a reason. It’s why year-round testing imperative in combat sports. Going on & off a drug-testing program to take them provides an unfair advantage & increases the inherent dangers fighters face. #MMA#boxing#CleanSport@UFC
Significant muscle mass can be maintained for months after stopping PEDs. Anabolics can lead to long-lasting increase in muscle cell nuclei long after stoppage AND a sustained physiological advantage especially with continued exercise. @TheTHF#cleansport#FairSport
