This Week is Earth Science Week! This year’s theme is “Earth Materials in Our Lives.” Did you know that every year over 40 thousand pounds of materials must be provided for every person in the US in order to make the things we use daily?
@MaryFletchJones Yes we have lots of exhibits, but due to COVID our offices are currently closed to the public. When we reopen, we welcome you to come look and bring your specimen along for a geologist to take a look at it!
Did you know all structures must be removed from a coal mining site before #DMME approves the bond and permit to be released? This storage silo was demolished to complete reclamation on a site in 2014. #ThrowbackThursday
Have you ever spotted a #mink? One of our #DMME inspectors did in Tazewell County. Minks make their homes near streams surrounded by woods. They also have webbed toes to help them swim. Minks eat frogs, snakes, fish and muskrats, among other things. #SaturdayShoutout
#DMME geologists were able to donate unused personal protective equipment purchased for a data preservation project. The donations, which included N-95 masks, gloves and coveralls, were sent to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. #Covid19
