Manchester City should be punished if they broke the rules, but relegation or stripping their titles feels disproportionate. Unless there was match-fixing, referee bribery or direct interference with results, the titles were still won on the pitch. Punish the breach, not the footballing achievements.
TROPHIES ARE WON ON THE PITCH, NOT IN A COURT ROOM.
All this noise about Man City doesn’t make much sense to me.
If they breached financial rules, then yes, punish them accordingly. Rules are rules. But unless they bribed the FA, bribed referees or fixed matches, I don’t see why their titles should automatically be considered illegitimate.
How many genuinely high-profile signings did they even make during the period in question? Meanwhile, Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool can spend huge amounts every transfer window while clubs like Stoke can’t compete financially, yet we still call that fair competition.
Punish City for whatever rules they actually broke, but don’t relegate them or rewrite titles that were won on the pitch.
