Setelah Jepang kalah, Ichiki membantu perjuangan Indonesia melawan Belanda.

My friend Nadiem Makarim’s trial just began.
Nadiem and I worked together at Gojek from 2015-2018, and I have known him since we entered university as 17 year olds.
TL;DR: Nadiem Makarim is as clean as they come.
I remember when we were running a nationwide driver recruitment campaign at Gojek early on. We began hearing feedback from a few prospective drivers that our field recruitment team was demanding money to enter Gojek. I was shocked and disappointed this was happening. With a social impact mission, drivers should be able to join our platform completely for free.
I quickly conveyed to my head of driver operations that if this was not stopped overnight, there would be consequences. The moment I heard similar feedback in the ensuing days, I knew we had to take decisive action, but was curious how Nadiem would respond when I shared the facts with him.
“Fire the entire team.”
And so within 24 hours we fired the driver operations heads and installed new ones, sending a strong message of integrity.
As this flashpoint illustrates, I am certain of Nadiem’s integrity. There is simply no way he has done what he is accused of.
Google investing in Gojek was because we built an awesome product loved by customers.
The Ministry of Education selecting Chromebook was because Google built an awesome product loved by K12 students and educators alike.
That’s it.
There is no “conflict of interest”.
Just 2 companies delivering highly competitive products loved by users.
And to think Google, a company valued in the trillions in market cap, would sully their name by engaging in a conflict of interest deal that is an infinitesimal drop in the bucket for them is hard to fathom.
In addition to integrity which Nadiem has in spades, his other trait is cost-consciousness. Being mission-driven over material-driven, even as he amassed wealth, he has always been careful with money. I cannot count the number of micro-moments in which he was said “no” to things that did not surpass his cost-benefit framework.
So excuse my wry smile when he is accused of “state losses”.
Nadiem’s frugality would have ensured his team negotiated aggressively, to get the best (read cheapest) deal possible.
Have a look at page 4-5 of this presentation by IDC comparing costs worldwide of other devices vs Chromebooks.

Depending on how you look at it, Chromebooks achieve 44-61% in savings. SAVINGS.
I urge everyone to read this presentation which highlights the many other benefits of Chromebooks vs other devices for the education domain.
Please help share this widely, as we collectively support Nadiem’s case for acquittal, so he can be back home where he belongs, with his wife and 4 beautiful children.
My name is Leonard. I’m 72. I drive a school bus—Route 12. I’ve been navigating the same streets in the same yellow machine for over a decade. Most days, the kids climb on, lost in their phones, and climb off. To them, I’m just the old man in the driver’s seat.
But from this seat, I see everything.
Last October, I noticed a girl—maybe fourteen—who always sat in the very last row. She kept her hoodie up and her headphones on, but every morning, she’d unwrap her lunch right there on the bus. It was always a single granola bar. She’d eat exactly half and tuck the rest into her backpack for later.
One morning, she dropped it. In the rearview mirror, I saw her face go pale with pure panic. She picked it up off the dirty bus floor, brushed it off, and ate it anyway.
My stomach turned.
The next day, I packed an extra ham and cheese sandwich. When she reached her stop, I held it out. "Hey, I packed way too much lunch today. You want this?"
She looked at me with deep suspicion. "Why?"
"Because it’ll just go to waste in my bag," I lied.
She took it and whispered a barely audible "Thanks."
I started packing extra every single day: a sandwich, an apple, a juice box. She never asked questions. She just took them with a quiet nod that spoke volumes.
The Truth on Route 12
Three weeks later, she remained in her seat after everyone else had cleared out at her stop. She walked to the front, her eyes red and rimmed with tears.
"Mr. Leonard... my mom works two jobs. My dad’s gone. It's just my little brother and me. We’re doing okay, but..." Her voice broke. "Sometimes the pantry is just empty."
I pulled the bus to the curb. "Are you telling me you’ve been giving your breakfast to your brother?"
She nodded.
I started crying right then and there—a seventy-two-year-old bus driver sobbing on the side of the road.
"What’s your name, honey?"
"Maya."
"Maya, you aren't carrying this alone anymore."
The Rolling Pantry
I did something that was probably against school policy: I called the counselor. Then I did something definitely against the rules: I started a box. I labeled it "Route 12 Care Box" and buckled it right behind my seat. I filled it with protein bars, crackers, and fruit cups.
I sent a simple note home with every student: "If you have extra snacks, leave them here. No questions asked."
The kids stepped up in a way that floored me. They brought boxes of crackers, bags of oranges, and even their own lunch snacks. The box didn't just fill; it overflowed.
But here is what really got me: It wasn’t just Maya. It turned out six other kids on my route were quietly going hungry. They had been hiding it behind headphones and hoodies for months.
Word traveled fast. Other drivers started their own boxes. Route 5, Route 19, Route 42—they all joined in. When the superintendent found out, she didn't shut it down; she turned it into a district-wide initiative called "Rolling Pantries." Now, every bus in the city carries one.
The Invisible Crisis
Last week, Maya graduated from middle school. She found me after the ceremony, beaming. "Mr. Leonard, I got into the honors program. I’m on a full scholarship. I could finally focus on the books because I wasn't focused on my stomach."
She hugged me so hard I thought my heart would burst.
Then she said, "I'm going to be a teacher one day. Because you taught me that people who see a problem can choose to be the solution."
I’m 72. I drive a bus. But here is what I know now: Hunger hides in plain sight. It wears a backpack and stays silent. It sits in the back of the room and tries to be invisible.
So, please, notice. Notice the coworker who skips lunch every day. Notice the neighbor’s kid who seems a bit too thin. Notice the person who says "I'm fine" while their eyes look exhausted.
You don't need a formal program or permission to be kind. Just pack extra. Share what you have. See the crisis that everyone else is walking past.
