Personally, I think Chris had great character development in the series, especially in Resident Evil 6. At first, he was lost, suffering from amnesia and turning to alcohol. In China, all he felt was guilt and anger.

But after Piers' sacrifice, he understood that he couldn't leave the job just because he was tired. He had to keep going — for Piers, for the BSAA, and for everyone else — despite all the losses he had faced before.

Like he said before:
