Around ca.1823, HRM, Oba Osemwende, Oba "emperor" of Benin Country, sent a skull and a sword to Oba Idewu the eleko of Eko, that the people of lagos no longer recognize him as ruler of lagos, and he should pick between the skull and sword, a tradition in Benin known as Zegbele

The sword and skull both represent two options...
- Skull - To commit suicide.
- Sword - To go to war with the Emperor.

Oba Idewu Ojulari recognized the skull and committed suicide through poisoning. After his death, his remains was brought to Benin for interment as it's the custom of the dynastic line of Eko, but Oba Osemwende rejected the idea of burying him in Benin, as those who died through suicide are considered unclean, Oba Idewu Ojulari was eventually buried in lagos. He was the first eleko to be interred in lagos, and succeeding eleko followed the new tradition.

I had my first PHYSIOTHERAPY SESSION at BMC (Benin Medical Care) today on my Bell's Palsy condition after the fatal accident I had on the 11th of November 2025 that almost took my life but God and ancestors came through.
