Each year, we unite at AES to honor our core values: "Safety first," "Highest standards," & 🤝 "All together." These Values guide us in our work, inspire our teams & customers, and impact the communities we call home.
This year, we've taken a moment to reflect on these values globally. But we didn't stop there! Our teams rolled up their sleeves for a day of volunteering - from 🌱 planting trees to educating the future energy leaders. 🌎💡

#WorldValuesDay
World Values Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October, which falls on October 17, 2024. This day is dedicated to increasing awareness and encouraging the practice of values worldwide. Here's what you might find interesting or useful about World Values Day:
Purpose: The day aims to unite people under shared values, promoting a more compassionate, inclusive, and value-driven world. It encourages individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions to reflect on what matters most to them and how these values can positively impact society.
Theme for 2024: The theme for this year is "Bringing Values to Life." This theme invites everyone to not only think about their values but actively incorporate them into daily life, workplace, community activities, and more.
Activities and Initiatives:
100 Days of Values in Practice: This initiative began before World Values Day, encouraging participants to engage in 100 different activities spread across themes like Nature, Economy, Society, and Well-being, aligning with the V20 Values Compass.
Social Media Engagement: Sharing experiences, thoughts, or initiatives related to values using hashtags like #WorldValuesDay or #WorldValuesDay2024. This year, there's an emphasis on creative expressions of values.
Values Week: Some regions or organizations might extend the celebration into a week, like the Victorian Public Sector, focusing on themes like "Working with Pride in the Victorian Public Sector."
Global Impact:
World Values Day isn't just about personal reflection but also about global understanding. It draws from the broader insights of the World Values Survey, which shows how values influence societal development, democracy, gender equality, and more.
The day promotes discussions on how traditional vs. secular-rational values and survival vs. self-expression values shape different cultures and communities globally, reflecting in policies, economics, and social structures.
How to Participate:
Reflection: Consider what values you hold dear and how you can embody them more fully in your life.
Action: Engage in activities that reflect these values, whether it's volunteering, starting a community projec.

October 19th is World Values day. Have you heard of the PERMA model? This uses our values to help us find ways to improve our mental health and wellbeing. Which PERMA are you working on at the moment? Here are some ideas from our team:
“Defining Values and Virtues, and How We Need to Be Virtues-Centered” Virtues are behaviors focused on taking action for a societal benefit, not a personal one. We need to shift to virtues in how we live and lead. https://t.co/OVLGvL8PUl
