Incidentally, the discourse with JKR's HP series has inspired me to start writing my own magical school book series! Still a work in progress, but the working title is "Willowbark Academy of Magic"
Writing makes you a writer.
Not finishing your novel, not getting agented, not going on sub, not publishing or self-publishing your first, fifth, fifteenth work.
Writing makes you a writer.

So lately when I've been in a writing slump or struggling with the middle of my manuscript, I pull 4-6 of my favorite books and read only the chapter of them I am currently writing. I just read 5 different chapter 9s. . . and I gotta say, this is a game changer.
Be happy if you write a chapter. ๐
Be happy if you write a paragraph. ๐
Be happy if you write a sentence. โ๏ธ
Be happy even if you DONโT write. ๐
Itโs coming. It takes time. Go at your own pace. Despite the noise around you, itโs NOT a race!! ๐ญโจ๐
I will do literally anything to be a successful author, except:
(1) tell anyone I know in real life that Iโm writer
(2) let anyone read my work

@ByLaraJackson I currently have a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and I work as casino security. In a way, me getting my degree helped but not exactly for what I was initially going for. I want to go back to school and get a writing or English major but COVID is making it hard to get back in ๐
Attention all freelance film, TV and gaming writers - we're putting together a monthly mailing list of (paid!) writing opportunities. If interested, please either DM me and @EmilyVMurray, or reply below with your email and a couple of examples of your writing :)
Most freelance writers and editors I talk to say they prefer short pitches,ย yet the majority I receive average 400-500 words. It's harder to write short than long, but getting to the point is important. Consider: 100 pitches/day @ this length is 40,000+ words to read ๐ณ
Every writer should be a freelancer. There are several reasons:
1. Money
-Freelance writers make more on average than in-house writers
-It costs less for organizations to hire a freelancer than it does to hire in-house, even if they pay the freelancer more.
