Almost all Women are stating that their work-load has increased multi-fold since Corona. In cooking more meals, tending to children & cleaning/maintaining of the home; days have been long and hard.
Most are sharing that they have had no rest days; adding to their mental stress.
Most women go through regular bouts of physical pain-they continue to work nonetheless.
They often have headaches, back, neck, or shoulder pain due to heavy or increased work-load.
Over time, many of these aches have become chronic due to lack of enough support, care and rest.
Most Women are sharing that their children have helped out in household chores more than their husbands.
“Our daughters are helping out in household chores like drying out the laundry, filling up water and washing vessels. The boys only sometimes help in small outside work.”
Most women are sharing that : “The TV is on all day on sensational News of Covid-19.”
This increases their stress levels, and they have been in constant fear for their family’s safety and worries about the future.
This has esp. made it difficult for them to remain positive.
Most Women share feeling more confident as well as respected by their families and the community- they experience an increased social status.
Also, they feel less dependent on their husbands for their financial needs.

During the period when alcohol was not available during lockdown; some of the Women Entrepreneurs shared that their husbands exhibited signs of anger and aggression; while many shared that they spent more quality time with the children because they weren't inebriated.

Some women were able to share some things with their husbands, while most reported crying out their woes alone at home, or in temples once they reopened to the public.
“Offering our worries to God helps us accept certain difficulties and get strength.”- most women say.

Many Women Entrepreneurs shared, that in the past 4 months with Covid; the only people they could share their problems without judgement or shame were Sharana's Social Workers.
Their motivation and presence gives the women courage and strength to continue moving ahead.
#Support
Most of our Women Social Entrepreneurs are reporting a drastic reduction in abuse and increased autonomy in household decision making since they began their own business.
This clearly reconfirms that economic empowerment is a driver in reducing violence and abuse against women.

It is satisfying to see that the businesses they started with Sharana's support has helped them make some savings. For many women, it has been the first time they have been able to save money.
