We have historical examples of "democratic socialists" using tax law to expropriate the property of the rich and successful, by the way
Take post-war Britain. It didn't just raise death and income taxes to the nearly 90% range. It also confiscated the industrial holdings of the nation's capitalists and landowners, taking everything from iron and steel mills to coal mines and railroads
This meant, for example, that the Fitzwilliam family--which had been beloved by the miners who worked for it for about two centuries--saw their coal mines taken from them, and the government then using strip mining to intentionally wreck their home. The gardens were plowed up to extract valueless coal, the estate wrecked, the home's foundation cracked. They were never compensated for the destruction of their home, and had to leave
Meanwhile, the rest of their class, which had suffered a 20% death rate in World War I, saw its property expropriated through ruinous death and income taxes at the same time as fees, fines, and regulations made doing anything productive impossible
Naturally, Britain went to pieces and has since gone from being a world-spanning empire to a miserable little welfare state, all thanks to that ruinous taxation and the spirit behind it
We ought not follow in its rotten footsteps
Today, @ChristianHeiens joins the show to trace Virginia's shift from a red to a blue state, blaming federal government growth, NOVA demographics, and shifting suburbs. We discuss the managerial-class DNC, the "woke right" divide, generational conflict, and the factions reshaping the right.

The left are not scared in the slightest a year after Charlie’s murder. Should tell you everything you need to know about how effective the response to his death was on the right. Failure across the board from everyone.
The point of the GOP is to act as a simulacrum of a right wing party that occupies its niche in the US political spectrum while rejecting, suppressing and undermining the right wing social values that place the wellbeing of the nation state before private or foreign interests.
Texas is really going to be the tipping point, if it doesn't go blue this election then it probably will in the next one. When Texas goes blue, it's actually Over and there will never be a Republican president again. Elected Republicans are actually fine with this because they've redistricted hard enough to remain competitive in Congress, so their political future will be leaning even harder into being the party that just makes gay compromises with Dems (specifically, Dem presidents) and never accomplishes anything of its own.
So, we will get the Thousand Year Lib Reich with an asterisk on it; there will be a competitive Republican plurality/majority in the House that will be able to put the brakes on the most unhinged leftoid stuff, but that's all. You will never see a Republican trifecta again once Texas is blue.
@Eye_Patch_Goy@revenant_MMXX 95% of Trump supporters are not deranged in the way that the terminally online trust-the-plan twitter cult is. I'm not talking about Trump voters as a whole.
Bottom trawling fisheries have to be banned forever and international penalties draconian. Imagine destroying entire habitats, for all human intents and purposes, forever, just to catch a few fish, once. https://t.co/2D0F5qPA7n
I had a locked mutual say the Iran War is Trump's entire legacy and nothing else will be remembered a minute before I saw this. And that mutual is very much right.
Middle Permian is very underrated. Probably the ugliest epoch in Earth history, and ended in a mass extinction that might have been as every bit as bad as the Big Five
@p0quess1ng You're entirely correct on the GOP but going off the history of his decade spent in politics I don't think Trump himself is particularly focused on solving this problem. He deserves credit for being a big step in the right direction.
