We've been asking for years that @NYCMayor provide sustainable funding for public space equity — Open Streets, play streets, skate and bike classes — but instead of listening, he decided to defund us. Tell Mayor Adams we want open streets!https://t.co/9pR4UobZeA
It is an unfortunate reality that moving street safety projects forward requires proving immense community support, rather than prioritizing the best outcomes. We empathize with our Astoria colleagues — please take a moment to sign their petition for safer streets on 31st Ave.
.@NYC_DOT must commit to true streetscape improvements on Atlantic Ave as @OsseChi and @crystalforbk insisted at this weeks Council hearing! @SophLebo continues her great coverage of AAMUP: https://t.co/kWKi2FfVNW
The City provides only a small fraction of the funds needed to operate Open Streets, and there are even more cuts on the horizon. Without a change, Open Streets won't survive. Many thanks to our local reps that came out to support @JoAnneSimonBK52@LincolnRestler@NYCComptroller
You have likely seen us fundraising for the 2025 Open Streets season. But obviously, having to do this every year is not ideal. To that end, this weekend we rallied with Open Streets organizers from around the city asking @NYCMayor to provide sustainable funding for Open Streets.
At @vanderbiltbk rallying to celebrate #OpenStreets &to ensure city adequately funds grassroots organizations that run them & that @nyc_dot get proper funding so open streets can flourish.
Safer streets make our neighborhoods safer, build community and are a boon to business.

As we've been fundraising for the 2025 Open Streets season on Vanderbilt Ave, we have received a number of questions about what the program costs and why we need to fundraise. Hopefully this helps! 🧵
This year’s budget is very bare bones, representing the least we can spend to run the most days while still offering the programming on the Vanderbilt Open Street and Underhill Plaza we know street-goers love.
Around the city, Open Streets have been shrinking year after year, drawing from an ever smaller pool of resources. If we want programs like Vanderbilt to survive, @NYCMayor ad @NYCCouncil need to commit to funding them and using permanent infrastructure to pedestrianize streets.
The mayor loves touting how Open Streets build community, safety, and joy — but if he wants to claim credit he also needs to provide the resources for Open Streets to thrive! https://t.co/3OumCTvyyj
Thanks to everyone who helped us get to $10k raised! These funds all directly support Open Streets operations and programming. It may not seem like it, but there are tons of pieces that go into running Vanderbilt Ave — we can't do it without your support!

ICYMI, the Vanderbilt Open Street will only run on Saturdays this year. This is a completely volunteer-led program, and needless to say, it is a challenge to run. We need your to ensure the program is the best it can be this year and is sustainable for years to come. Links below!
Even though Vanderbilt will be running only on Saturdays this year, we're still hoping it will be one of the highlights of your summer weeks. Please help us get there! https://t.co/VRCFAi2KFk
Vanderbilt Avenue will only be converted to a car-free paradise on Saturdays from May to September this year, a money-saving rollback for a thriving neighborhood institution that used to be all weekend from early spring to fall. https://t.co/7Tys5gEvdZ
It is always a special day when there is salsa on Vanderbilt Avenue. This incredible gathering brings out a community of NYers that come from all walks of life. Want to see Salsa Salsa back on Vanderbilt this season? Help us make it happen: https://t.co/VRCFAi2KFk
