Things I overheard my students say (year 10 edition)
1: He reminds me of @hankgreen
2: Who is that?
1: You don't know who Hank Green is?! But he has cancer! You need to be on tiktok more!
Taking over science fair at school means I get to hear about all the cool projects our students are doing. The latest one - a project about peoples ability to recognize text written by AI!
To help put 2023 in context for Aucklanders, here is the Airport rain accumulation plot (red line is 2023, showing a total of 540mm).
The Airport has seen about half (48%) of its annual rainfall in just 45 days. Drier weather for the coming days, https://t.co/tks2Q488UD ^GG
Thankfully safe after all the rain. Thinking about the many families heavily affected. I know some of our whānau at school have lost everything, and my heart breaks for them.
@designjaneArt Glad you are safe! I haven't heard much about places needing volunteers, only about places taking donations. Keep staying safe for the next few days!
And why is more base needed than acid? Planning an experiment for level 2 chemistry and would like to understand before the brighter students pick up on this and ask me
Chemistry question - if you add HCl to slime it gets thinner as cross linking is disturbed, and adding NaOH reverses this so it gets viscous again, but never reaches the initial viscosity, and requires more NaOH than HCl - why does it not revert to the initial viscosity?
I told a kid off for swearing. Her and her friends looked at me confused and it turns out when someone with a kiwi accent says decade it sounds like d****head
I have recently started playing blooket with my students, a great alternative to kahoot! The style makes it more competitive and my girls are loving it!
@JoelPMackay@JanSlapeta@Sydney_Uni Oh absolutely, and I don't mean to suggest it's an easy fix! I think that's just what we need to work towards, as well as student led learning, but that is much easier said than done!
