After I was shot, and before I had even opened my eyes, then-President @BarackObama visited me in the hospital.
He was—and still is—a true leader and a friend.
You can watch this moment and his interview in #GabbyMovie tonight on @CNN!
After Trump elevated anti-immigrant & anti-Latino rhetoric, we had the deadliest anti-Latino shooting in modern history.
After anti-Asian hate w/COVID, Atlanta.
Tree of life. Emanuel AME. Buffalo.
And now after an anti-LGBT+ campaign, Colorado Springs.
Connect the dots, @GOP.
Jill and I are praying for the families of the five people killed in Colorado Springs, and for those injured in this senseless attack.
While no motive in this attack is yet clear, we know that gun violence has a particular impact on LGBTQI+ communities across our nation.
This begins with our political leaders.
Call them out when they promote hate and bigotry. Remind them of the violence of Colorado Springs. Of the massacre at Pulse Nightclub. Of what nearly happened at Coeur D’Alene.
Don’t let them spread hate. Don’t let it go unanswered.
Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
The attack on the 2SLGBTQI+ community in Colorado Springs is horrifying, and we stand with them against this vile act of hatred. On behalf of Canadians, I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost a loved one, and wishing a fast and full recovery to all those injured.
I’m so sad about another mass shooting. I’m so weary of the hate inflicted against the #LGBTQ community. And I’m so furious that our country continues to do absolutely nothing to prevent these senseless murders. #GunControlNow
The violent news from Colorado Springs is sickening and heartbreaking - the more so because there is a pattern.
We can not, will not, allow hate to win. We must end this in our time. No rest until all of us, including all of us in the LGBTQ+ community, can be, and feel, safe.
Every year since 2016, over 3,500 children or teens have been killed by guns in America. You know what has not killed a single child or teen in any year in history? Drag performances.
From a friend on the ground in Colorado Springs:
"The Club Q (the site of the murders) had planned to host a 'Friendsgiving' dinner this Thursday for all the folks who don’t have family that love them. If they go ahead, the one way we can help them is by donating food."
Today our hearts are with the victims and survivors of the senseless act of violence and hate that took place last night at Club Q. We stand with the community of Colorado Springs and all who have been impacted. #NOH8
Here is a thread of verified fundraisers to support those affected by the mass shooting at Club Q—an LGBTQ bar—in Colorado Springs.
Our Trust & Safety Team is monitoring our platform closely, we will update this list as more fundraisers are created to help victims & families:
For a brief moment, I'm taking off my journalist badge to post as a dad.
My daughter is gay and will be 22 next month. I can't tell you how absolutely horrified I would feel if she'd been at Club Q in Colorado Springs last night. This whole event makes me sick.
My heart is broken. Leslie Jordan was one of the funniest people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Everyone who ever met him, loved him. There will never be anyone like him. A unique talent with an enormous, caring heart. You will be missed, my dear friend. 😔❤️
some of y'all are blaming the wrong person - #adamlevine with an e is the tattooed singer dude who did the tweets. #adamlavine with an e is a scientist. #spellingmatters
