Freedom did not arrive all at once, and its story did not end with a single moment. Across generations, communities have shaped, challenged, and carried the meaning of freedom forward.
This month, we gather, reflect, and move that story forward together.

Virginia's first governor ignited the flames of revolution in 1775 with a legendary speech that you may have heard of with the words, "Give me liberty or give me death!"
๐ Happy 290th Birthday to the โVoice of the American Revolution,โ Mr. Patrick Henry! It was #OnThisDayinHistory, May 29, 1736, that Patrick Henry was born at Studley Plantation in Hanover County, Virginia, about twelve miles northeast of what would become present-day Richmond just a few years later.
๐ Today is a momentous day for Patrick Henry's Red Hill, Patrick Henry & his descendants, the soon-to-be newest US citizens, the VA250 initiative, and all passionate history lovers gathering together to honor a hero of the American Revolution as we celebrate 250 years as a country this year!
๐ณ The annual Patrick Henry Descendants Branch will be taking place at Red Hill this year, bringing together Mr. Henryโs descendants from around the world to return to the place their Patriot ancestor once called home.
๐ 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM: The @VARevolution250 Mobile Museum Experience, โOut of Many, One,โ will be on-site at Red Hill today and is free of admission! If you cannot visit today, donโt worry; the mobile museum will be at Red Hill and open to the public from Friday, May 29, to Monday, June 1, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. However, the mobile museum will be open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 31.
๐ 11:00 AM: The newest United States citizens will take their oath of citizenship to become naturalized on the same ground Virginiaโs Patriot once peacefully enjoyed with his family. It is a sacred privilege to become a U.S. citizen at the final home and resting place of a man who, without whom, would not be standing here today becoming citizens of the United States of America.
๐ Celebration & Honoring of Patrick Henryโs 290th Birthday & Legacy: Immediately following the naturalization ceremony, gather around Patrick Henryโs grave as we pay tribute and give our gratitude to Patrickโs remarkable achievements during his 63 years and 8 days in this life with a wreath-laying ceremony.
๐ญ 7:00 PM: Join Red Hill and descendants of Patrick Henry at 246 The Main in Brookneal, VA, for the first-ever presentation of โOh, Henry! A Revolutionary Life!' Patrick Henryโs fifth great-grandson, Patrick Henry Jolly, will portray an experienced Patrick Henry as he fondly reminisces and recollects the memories that most helped write the story of his destiny.
โ Please refer to https://t.co/Iafn2eHtY1 or reach out to Red Hill at (434) 376-2044 for any further questions. Donโt miss your chance to take part in this historic day as we continue to celebrate and remember the life of Americaโs Patriot, Patrick Henry!
