We in RSS fought emergency. I was personally underground for a year

Last year in Bangalore on the Constitution Hatya Day 2025 I explained the horror I saw and ensured during the 18 month period

Emergency was not just an 18 month horror. Those who limit it to an 18 month affair are ignorant of the fact that Indira had amended the Constitution to institute a dynastic dictatorship without any opposition to continue the horror for ever and got the President to sign it on Jan 3 1977 and then only called for the elections with the Emergency still in force. She didn't withdraw it to facilitate free elections

With money power and shock announcement of polls she was sure to win the elections and the 4 party divided opposition leaders and cadres in jail for 18 months was sure to lose

So the odds were 99:1 in her favour to win so she could claim people have endorsed emergency and the Constitition 42 amendment which enabled her by executive order to ban all opposition including the opposition parties which would mean a single party Dynastic autocracy -- with Sanjay already in control of the congress

Unfortunately even the BJP has projected the emergency as only 18 month horror and failed to say that the constitution was amended to Institute a dynastic dictatorship for ever

I told the BJP to print 10000 copies of the constitution as of Jan 2 1977 which destroyed the Ambedakar Constitition and ask Rahul to hold it and not the Constitition of the Janata party which restored Ambedkar's.

Upset with the BJP's communication failure I tweeted on Jun 26 2026 as under

Indira got the President to assent to the 42nd Amendment on Jan 3 1977 and then called for elections on Jan 19. The conspiracy was to trap an unprepared opposition just released from Jail into the elections, defeat them and then use Art 32D and ban all parties

We received Advani who was released from Bangalore Jail in Chennai Central station on 20th Jan. When we discussed what was the way forward he said "if we contest the elections we will lose. She will claim people have endorsed the emergency. if we don't she will say we ran away. So either way she has fixed us".

This was his view. But destiny willed differently. She never expected all 4 parties to dissolve themselves and form one Janata Party. And she never expected Jagjivan Ram to quit congress and align with Janata Party. The two developments shook her

She also failed miserably to estimate the depth of the underground movement of RSS which had built a valcano of peoples anger which exploded as mass rallies. Govt even discussed whether the elections could be postponed

Finally the dictator was defeated. But that is not the end of the story of emergency and its effects.

The Janata govt scrapped the 42nd Amendment and with it Art 32D which would have made India a dynastic single party dictatoship by banning all parties had she won the election

Imagine Indira had won the 1977 elections.

She would banned all parties under Art 32D which has also been not justiciable in courts. The people defeated not only her but the conspiracy to turn India into a dictatorship.

I was so happy when the Modi govt decided to observe June 26 as constitution murder day. I am equally unhappy the govt did not expose the conspiracy to turn India into a dynastic single party dictatoship through Art 32D.

So the emergency story is presented as only 18 month horror is under presentation of the permenent horror that Arr 32D has instituted
