@03Amanda17@Acyn Unfortunately, he has unfettered powers to appoint anyone he deems fit in this situation. It's the law in SC. His actions my be unethical, but sadly he's acting within the laws of the state.
@nishant_nihar@Acyn The voters will decide in the August 11th special elections for a replacement candidate and in November for the winner of the midterms. Graham's sister is simply appointed as interim to serve out what would've been his natural term. Unfortunately, it's a legal process.
@SagKyngTyrius@Acyn@AndyBeshearKY That's the real McCoy! Beshear needs to get on with it! Demand an in-person interaction with McConnell, and call a special election. He's wasting precious time and the Rs are running out the clock. He has until August 3rd.
@ArtVand18778583@Acyn Unfortunately, the law doesn't require the interim placeholder to have any qualifications for the role. In SC that is. Each state is different.
@kuntrykids@Acyn First sibling instance, but there were 3 notable instances of spouse standing in for departed husbands and a lot more of children standing in for departed fathers. Unfortunately, it's all a legitimate process. No worries, the seat will flip in the midterms.
@nobody36027512@Acyn She'll be in until January 3rd. A special election to choose Graham replacement will be held in August. She is simply the placeholder, not a replacement. That's the law, unfortunately. Unethical, but the law nonetheless.
@lmtunkara@Acyn Special election for the dead senator seat will be held in August the winner of that contest will then face the D nominee in November. Graham sister is simply a place holder until January when the winner of the November election takes office.
@HeverTudorAB@Acyn She's interim and can only serve until January 3rd, when his tenure would've been up. They'll have a runoff in August to determine the R. Candidate for the November election. She cannot participate in that contest.
@teachnfishpkp@Acyn It's part for the course for the governor to appoint a replacement if the current senator dies or resigns the position. SC grants it's governor unrestricted latitude to appoint whomever he deems fit as interim senator. Sad, but true.
