The next AVA webinar is set! Join @Dr_Lori_Burrows on July 30 at 5 p.m. ET to dissect biofilms and understand how to treat and prevent them. 1.0 CE available! Sponsored by SterileCare. Register>>>https://t.co/LmbPQmzLg1
@ISaveThatLine@Drhudsongarrett This webinar is crucial for folks that use ultrasound in their practice. Regulatory bodies are looking closely at ultrasound practice and changes are coming our way. Be part of the conversation.
MAJOR shout out to Tim Spencer @AirliftNurse for being awarded our coveted Suzanne LaVere Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access for 2019! Congratulations, Tim! https://t.co/rC285v1vaX
๐จ The @CDCgov is considering expanding its surveillance protocols to include ALL hospital onset bacteremia!๐จ
AVA encourages you to share your opinion on the current protocols & proposed changes. Together, we can make the case for every life & every line! https://t.co/UzWbDpT6Zd
@foxglovesgarden@ISaveThatLine@foxglovesgarden I tried to send a direct message but unable. I'm the director of clinical education at AVA. I would love to see if there is any advice we may offer. Would you please offer more details via Direct message or email [email protected]?
Here's the lung ultrasound of a patient who was stabbed in the chest. If you look closely at the pleural line you can see a point where there is sliding to the right, but no sliding to the left! This is the #LungPointSign. It confirms the diagnosis of pneumothorax.

@jsavite When "whosagoodboy" shared his photo it got hundreds of thousands of likes, but it's unlikely any of them were from dog-loving vascular access clinicians. @ISaveThatLine
@annelies_J_H @rsethib @McLeemz Unfortunately many clinicians consider PIVs trivial & of no concern. The data tell us 1000s of patients each year are affected by bacteria using catheters to enter the bloodstream. Loose, non-occlusive dressings like Andyโs foster infection. PIV care is essential, not trivial.
@ISaveThatLine In the UK we call these flip-top port covers, 'Toilet Seats' ...Often left open, full of crap, & difficult to clean. Andy Murray is special. So are the 1000's of patients internationally put at unnecessary serious risk from poor PVC standards. S Rowley/@ANTT_org
@_j3lena_@ISaveThatLine Anytime there is a non-occlusive dressing (ie: hairy arms, diaphoretic or bloody skin) there is an opportunity for bacteria to create havoc.
@_j3lena_@ISaveThatLine Peripheral line blood stream infections DO happen. Bacteria don't care if they enter via a peripheral or central cannula. They both have the potential to create serious and sometimes fatal bloodstream infections.
@71D4L @ISaveThatLine The insertion site(s) may be the best aspect of this cannula. The AC crease is problematic for multiple reasons (pistoning, vessel irritation ...) If the hair was clipped the dressing would likely be occlusive and nicely placed away from flexion.
