CPT Code 93296, which represents the work required to conduct 90-day remote evaluations of pacemakers and ICDs, is significantly undervalued. Despite a detailed, data-driven proposal submitted to CMS asserting that the code needs to be revalued—CMS still has questions, and they want the answers from the people who know best: people like you!

What You Need to Know:
CPT code 93296 is currently reimbursed at ~$19.41—based on outdated assumptions. Our coalition prepared a Practice Expense Report that shows CPT code 93296 underappreciates:

➡️ The TIME required to conduct comprehensive remote evaluations every 90 days, which is more than 28 minutes.
The 2023 HRS 2023 guidelines describe 32 distinct tasks required to conduct quarterly pacemaker and ICD evaluations.
➡️ That TECHNOLOGY used in remote monitoring requires an integrated hardware and software system—the same platform is used for loop recorder checks. This goes beyond the basic transmitter setup on which the current rate was based.
➡️ That a higher-level TECHNICIAN is required to adequately provide these services (eg, an electrodiagnostic technologist rather than a cardiovascular technician).
