Respected @theicai Leadership,
We, as members of this great profession, are often preached about “diversifying beyond traditional practices,” venturing into international assignments, valuation, forensic work, insolvency, advisory and so on. These are indeed important avenues and we recognize the role of ICAI in opening new frontiers for our members globally.
However, the undeniable reality is that even today, more than 90% of Chartered Accountants in practice derive their bread and butter from Income Tax returns, Tax Audits, GST compliances and similar statutory assignments.
This is not just a matter of professional work, but a matter of livelihood, dignity and survival of lakhs of practitioners across small and mid-sized firms in every town and city of India.
When the Income Tax portal fails, when deadlines are imposed without adequate utilities, when audits are rushed without clarity on deadlines, it becomes not merely an “inconvenience” but an existential crisis for the majority of practicing CAs. These are the professionals who keep the compliance machinery of the nation moving, and their concerns deserve to be represented with full force before the Government.
Unfortunately, what we are seeing instead is silence, ambiguity and a lack of visible support from the Institute. While global initiatives and tall claims are celebrated, the ground-level struggles of members who form the backbone of the Institute are being ignored.
We therefore place before you this humble yet firm expectation:
✅That ICAI raises the collective voice of its members before the Government in a manner that reflects both the seriousness of the hardships and the scale of the profession’s involvement in tax compliances.
✅That ICAI acknowledges the very nature of tax audits and ITR filings, and ensures members engaged in traditional practice are not left to fend for themselves against unreasonable deadlines and failing systems.
✅That the Institute balances its global aspirations with ground realities, remembering that its true strength lies not just in creating international footprints, but in safeguarding the everyday working environment of its members in India.
The fraternity has always stood shoulder to shoulder with ICAI in its growth journey. Today, we expect the same solidarity from ICAI in our hour of difficulty.
With regards,
On behalf of the CA Fraternity

Practice has become non-lucartive with burdensom compliances, Low Fees, Non-Supportive elective representatives, irrational due dates and Faulty portals.
@rambajajgst There were a series of cases for a month to get the date extended. We all were irritated and angry and there was panic. Courts extended the date.
@rambajajgst I won't favor this govt as I too am facing similar problems as you all. But, I correctly remember how the portal crashed when it was made live to file TAR for the first time and govt totally refused to extend the due date. We have a very short memory.
We have a practice to call all clients for dsc on 1st September and check that they all will be functioning till the due date. Not even once an audit got stuck due to dsc in 11 years.
@TaxationUpdates@IncomeTaxIndia My own return which I filed on 30th July and everified immediately is under processing till date. The returns I filed for clients on 26th July and being everified now are being processed in a day or in a few hours
This yr I did not put a single tweet for ext of the due date of #ITR coz I its not my responsibility but client's to raise the issues. I instead focused on completing the work on the table. I was free at 11:45 pm last night. All returns filed. At least fee will come timely now.
