If you didn't need another reason to grow kalettes after almost 9 months of kalette sprouts and kale leaves they produce a flush of flower spikes like tender stem brocoli.
@2ndcitycottage It would be perfect for carrots but might cost a bit to fill. I use a 50/50 topsoil compost mix, sieved & mixed with some vermiculite and root fertiliser in 30lt tubs for carrots. To fill a crate will need a lot of that. I do the manure/squash thing as I get the manure for free.
First seeds sown this year. Chillies de Cayenne & Cayennetta. Aubergine Jewel. Broads beans Aguadulce & Crimson Flowered. Shallots Zebrune & Simiane. Potatoes Chitting Casablanca & Acoustic.
@2ndcitycottage All our egg shells go in a try that stays at the bottom of the oven. When it's full and they are dried I crush them up and mix a few handfuls in when I'm potting up seedlings to make the compost go further and open it up a bit much like you would do with perlite.
