For anyone who doesn't know, a "Mary Sue" is an idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character. You know, like Super Man, but *bad* because it's a female.

The other side of the coin is when a character is written as kinda gross and bad but the writers aren’t aware it’s bad behaviour so it’s condoned by the narrative.
Anyone calling fictional characters toxic needs to realize that they’re characters written to be assholes, written to be dangerous, etc, for the purpose of books and stories, and if you’re not mentally sound enough to handle that type of writing, you need to consume other media.
